Lily*

Petals, petals, contrasting
in vivid celebration
Clover tinged, alyssum tumbling wild
Sunshine laughs upon the fields
Azure and humming solidarity

Lily from the hothouse,
Don’t you envy the daffodils and daisies their carefree minds?
Lily from the hothouse
It’s naive, to despise innocence

Brief vignette to frolic
In the last of summer’s benediction
Leaves will blush and brown without your help
Hold the moment, dance a while
Adrift, your soil notwithstanding

Lily from the hothouse,
Don’t you envy the sunflowers
and snowdrops their carefree minds?
Lily from the hothouse
It’s naive, to despise innocence
