Put That Business To Bed

Yeah, I know, I already have a Goodbye song … but this is about something different and needs a different kind of goodbye. I don’t really like writing angry songs – they can get ugly – but some stuff needed to come out. Think Pink, and let me have my vomit – I’ll feel better afterwards and, hopefully, this is the last revisit you’ll ever ride along for. I feel like I’m in a place now where I can vent about this and articulate the bitterness of that season without, finally, actually feeling bitter.

DONE
(c) 2009 Rebekah Robinson

Play with my brain, will you?
Tell me that I’m the crazy one
Present what proof you’re into
Your eyes are closed to what you’ve done

chorus
You stripped me naked twice a week
You told me goosebumps were for freaks
And now I’m out the other side
I won’t go back to terrified

Held up for ransom all those years
My ragged soul for ridicule
You never meant to cause those tears
Exceptions drowning out your rule

chorus
You stripped me naked twice a week
And told me goosebumps were for freaks
And now I’m out the other side
I won’t go back to terrified

bridge
I’m melting down these shards
Into a far more tensile heart
My hands are out, I hope they’re clean
Surprised at what I’ve actually gleaned

chorus2
Held by a paperclip of faith
Thank God He kept me through those days
I will forgive and now forget –
You no longer owe me that debt.
